Searching Google & Google Scholar

Google Web Search

Advanced Search:

After conducting a basic Google search, click "Settings" and select "Advanced search."  This will allow you to search specific domains (.org, .edu, or .gov). (You can also do this by adding site: and the specific domain after your search terms while conducting a basic Google search.) Other Advanced search options allow you to narrow your search to specific file types (e.g. .pdf).

Publication Date:

If you'd like to find web sources published after a specific date, conduct a basic Google search, click "Tools," and change the dropdown menu that defaults to "Any time." This will allow you to set a "Custom Range."

Google Scholar Search

Google Scholar:

Google Scholar allows you to use Google to search for scholarly (i.e. peer-reviewed) articles. (Please note, you may not be able to actually access everything it retrieves.)  Here are some tips for using Google Scholar.
