APA: Reference Page

Basic Rules

  • Last name first, followed by author initials
  • Alphabetize by author's surname (or title if there is not author)
  • Double spaced
  • Hanging Indent
  • Capitalize only the first letter of the first word of the title and, if applicable, the subtitle
  • Journal titles, books, names of newspapers and other longer works are italicized
  • Do not put smaller works in quotes or italics (Reference Page Only)
  • URLs for electronic sources, including DOIs 
  • No longer need "Retrieved from" (APA 7th Edition)
  • List the last name and initials of all authors of a work up to 20

What's a DOI?

"A digital object identifier (DOI) is a permanent digital identifier given to an object.  Its most common application is identifying electronic documents" (Basics of APA Style Tutorial, 2016).
