APA (American Psychological Association)

APA is a common formatting style for essays and papers in the social sciences (psychology and sociology, economics, nursing, and others.  

APA style has unique formats for in-text citations (parenthetical) and reference page citations. 

  • In-text citations: Where you cite a source in the body of your paper after you quote or paraphrase. 
  • Reference page citations: A final list of all of your sources at the end of your paper
